The metal etch process is a method of metal melting that allows metal to be etched onto surfaces such as metal parts, pipes, pipeslid and other metal items.
The process uses hot, acidic, and sometimes corrosive liquids, which create a protective coating on the metal surface that prevents the metal from corroding.
The process can produce beautiful metal work, but metal etchers are expensive, and there is a good chance they will not last long on an item, said Mark Wysocki, owner of Wysocks Metal etching Co., a metal etcher shop in Indianapolis, Indiana.
“Metal etching machines are expensive and take a long time to produce,” Wysicks said.
“So, we have to be patient.
We have to wait until we’re done with it and have the proper equipment.
If we do the right things, we can make beautiful work.”
Metal etchers usually cost between $300 and $600.
However, some companies such as J.C. Penney and Amazon, which specialize in metal and metal products, are starting to make and sell their own metal etches for less than $400.
Wysocks and other makers say they do not want to put off customers who want to purchase metal etachments.
“It’s definitely an option to make these items, but if you’re looking to buy, I don’t think that it’s a very good option for you,” Wiesocks said.
Wysicks Metal etch machine cost $300, but he plans to make another metal etchant in a few months for about $800, he said.
He said he has used his metal etched items on his company’s website and on Amazon, and he plans on doing it again when he sees demand.
He said he does not see a reason for consumers to spend more on metal eteching equipment.
As for how he would make the item, he has to wait and see.
Wysocked has sold his own metal and other items for more than $2,000, and said he will be adding metal etakng machines to his shop soon.
“I would love to sell them, but I would also love to make them,” he said of the metal etcchers.
“I would do it if I had the money, but it doesn’t seem like I have the money right now.”
